- SAINCA will also field its 12 member team for International exposure to athletes.
The event will see total participation from 12 countries (11 Asian + 1 Australia) namely Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Hongkong, UAE, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal, Singapore, Australia & India. More than 150 cyclists from different countries will compete in this event for the top honours.
The Cycling Federation of India is organizing the fifth edition of The Track Asia Cup 2018 at cycling Velodrome, IG Sports Complex,NewDelhi from 21st to 23rd of Sept. 2018. The Federation has gone a long way since organsing in 2014 with hardly any stars to showcase now has become a force specially in Junior section, not only at the Asian level but also have left a mark at the Juniors World Championship.
The event will witness 13 teams from across Asia while Australia participating in this UCI class I accredited event from outside the continent. Theimportant factor being that this event is not only part of the World cup, World championship, but also for the Olympic qualifier for 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The process of qualification started in July 2018 will go up toFeb 20th 2020 thus making it most competitive one. The main Challenge in the event coming from HongKong , Thailand , Kazakhstan& Malaysia.
The Teams will start arriving on 19th of Sept. and would have 02 days of practice session at velodrome before the Commencement of the event on 21st Sep. 2018
Of course the riders from Australia will be tough to compete. All in all this event will have a very high standard of cycling and India as last year, will be vying for top honors.
The main strength of Indian team is the Junior lead by Mr. Esow currently ranked no 1 in the Kierin event in the UCI world ranking, Not only that the Esow ranked no 02 in the sprint event while Indian Juniors in Team event are also ranked at no 2 and this makes our Juniors formidable team and would be very tough for other countries to beat them.
Mr. Esow who put the track on fire at the Asian track cycling championship held at Nilai, Malaysia in Feb. 2018 winning three Gold Medal and the only male cyclists to achieve this feat in the entire Asian championship. Of course his team mates Mr. Jemsh Singh & Mr. MayurPawarin team sprint surprised all the Asian teams with Gold while in the women junior categoryMs. DannamaChichikhandithe Junior women cyclist won first ever medal in the Asian championship. She Secured a Bronze in the point race. Mr. Esow missed Gold by a whisker in Keirin event in the World junior Championship held at Aigle, Switzerland in Aug. 2018, thus planting himself into the top elite cyclists in the world with silver.
The senior women will also have a tough competition with the Hong Kong, Singapore & Thailand which will be lead by none other than Ms. Deborah and Ms. SonaliChanu who are currently ranked 9th in the UCI world ranking in Team Sprint event.
Federation would also enter its second team which will consists of cyclists, mostly from SAINCA , a Cycling academy being managed jointly by the Sports authority of India and Cycling Federation of India and will provide a much needed exposure of International competition to the young aspiring cyclists of the country.
All in all three day Cycling extravaganzawill showcase top class competitive Track cycling in the Capital.
Onkar Singh, Secretary General Cycling Federation of India said on the occasion, “This competition is a buildup competition for Indian Cyclists, which is being organised regularly so that Junior Cyclists of India can compete with Asia’s best and the exposure achieved here may be encashed for future events.”
