The 2013 UCI Congress elected Brian Cookson as the UCI President for the term of 2013-2017 winning over the incumbent UCI President by the votes 24 versus 18 out of a total of 42 voting delegates composed of 9 from ACC, 14 from UEC, 9 from Pan-America, 7 from CAC and 3 from Oceania.
Pat McQuaid, out-going President, speaking after the election was announced, said,� I would like to extend my congratulations to Brian on his success in the election. Being elected UCI President was one of my proudest moments in my life and I know that it is also a proud occasion for Brian, his family and his supporters.�
Brian Cookson, in-coming President, after the announcement of his victory, said:� I would like to thank you for all of the trust that you placed in me today. The real work starts now. I would call on the global cycling community to unite.�
Mr. Cookson also paid his tribute to Pat McQuaid, saying: 밒 would like to thank Pat sincerely for his contributions he has made both to cycling and to the UCI in his long career.�
At the ACC MC Meeting held on 26thSept, a day before the 2013 UCI Congress in Florence, Mr. Cho, Hee Wook, ACC President said that we all ACC Board members would have to be united for ensuring the development of cycling in Asia and NF in our continent, in particular in the coming UCI Congressional elections for the President and the MC Members who would most dedicate towards our cycling sport.
